SEAI Solar PV grant: how to apply and what to check in a quote
The SEAI Solar Electricity Grant supports eligible homes installing Solar PV panels. Use this as a practical homeowner checklist before you accept a quote.

SEAI lists the domestic Solar PV grant as capped at EUR 1,800. The published structure is EUR 700 per kWp up to 2 kWp, then EUR 200 per additional kWp from 2 kWp up to 4 kWp.

Eligibility checks before you apply
- The home should have been built and occupied before 2021.
- The MPRN should not already have received Solar PV grant support.
- You need the electricity MPRN and homeowner/applicant details.
- You must apply and receive the grant offer before installation work starts.
- The installation should be completed by an SEAI registered Solar PV company.
Step-by-step application flow
- Estimate suitability. Check roof space, shading, electricity usage and whether a battery is actually useful for your usage pattern.
- Get comparable quotes. Ask at least two or three installers for system size, component models, final price after grant and warranty detail.
- Apply to SEAI before works. Do not start installation until the grant offer is approved.
- Install with a registered company. The company should complete the works and supply required declarations.
- ESB Networks notification. Confirm the installer submits the microgeneration notification/NC6 process.
- Complete post-works BER and documents. SEAI requires post-install documentation before payment.
- Submit payment request. Upload the required documents through SEAI and keep copies with your installer handover pack.
