Prices vary by roof, installer, component choice and battery size, but these guide ranges help you spot quotes that need more questions. Treat them as broad homeowner planning figures, not guaranteed market prices.

Grant treatment in the quote
The domestic SEAI Solar PV grant is currently shown on SolarGuide as capped at EUR 1,800. A good quote should show the price before grant, the expected grant amount and the homeowner amount separately.

What affects cost
Solar PV pricing varies by system size, roof access, component choice, battery size, electrical works and how much paperwork or aftercare is included.
How to compare payback
Payback depends on how much solar electricity you use yourself, what you export, your electricity unit rate and whether you add a battery. Be careful with optimistic assumptions: changing the self-use rate, export tariff or battery behaviour can move the payback by years.
- Ask for annual generation in kWh, not only a percentage saving.
- Separate self-consumed savings from export income.
- Check the electricity price and export tariff used in the calculation.
- Ask whether battery savings assume night-rate charging or solar-only charging.
Battery add-on checks
A battery can make a quote look more complete, but it is not automatically good value. Always compare panels-only and panels-plus-battery versions before deciding.

- No roof layout or shading discussion.
- Grant shown as guaranteed before eligibility is checked.
- No clarity on who submits SEAI paperwork or ESB Networks notification.
- Pressure to start work before grant approval.
- Very large battery proposed without matching the household usage pattern.
Payment and grant timing
Confirm whether you pay the full installer price and receive the grant later, or whether the quote has a finance arrangement. SEAI grant payment depends on documents being completed and submitted, so do not leave the paperwork vague.
